How professional and lived experience shaped My Self Care

Professional Background

With over 16 years in the beauty and self-care industry and active involvement in vocational education since 2013, founder Kate brings extensive expertise to this initiative. She holds current industry qualifications alongside vocational education and training certifications and has delivered beauty education across diverse settings, including international colleges, private organisations, and government institutions.

Her career includes course coordination, program development, and training management, with a strong focus on compliance, quality auditing, and creating tailored learning resources to support diverse learning needs and achieve measurable outcomes.

Cultural Engagement

Kate is accredited in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Education, equipping her to deliver culturally informed programs. She has delivered initiatives aligned with the Reconciliation Action Plan and, for several years, has actively participated in the Nyiirun Djiyagan Wakulda Women’s Festival, strengthening her community engagement and cultural knowledge.

Disability & Education Experience

More recently, Kate has supported students with disabilities in educational settings, working with teachers and support staff to create responsive learning environments. She is continuing to develop this expertise through ongoing studies in school-age student support, with a particular focus on autism and behavioural assistance. This combination of professional experience and practical application ensures her programs effectively meet a range of participant needs.

Lived Experience

Kate has personal experience supporting children and young people with diverse needs, including those who have experienced trauma or live with disabilities, both in her professional work and within her home. This background has given her a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by these individuals and their families, inspiring her to design programs that are both compassionate and practical.

Current Position

While My Self Care is currently an individual start-up and not yet a registered not-for-profit, it is built on a strong foundation of professional experience, cultural knowledge, educational expertise, and lived experience. This ensures the workshops are carefully designed to have meaningful, real-world impact across the Mid North Coast community.
