About My Selfcare
Our mission is to support confidence, wellbeing and social connection through inclusive beauty, hair and self-care programs.
Using familiar and engaging activities, we create opportunities for women and girls with disability, and those facing barriers to employment or community participation, to learn new skills, connect with others and build confidence.
We believe everyone deserves opportunities to participate, belong and feel comfortable being themselves.
Our Story
Many people learn self-care skills informally through friends, family or online resources. For some individuals, particularly those with disability, these opportunities may not always be accessible or available in a way that meets their needs.
Through conversations with individuals, families, support providers and community professionals, we recognised the need for learning environments that are practical, inclusive and easy to engage with.
These conversations highlighted the value of creating opportunities for people to learn, build confidence and connect with others in a supportive setting, helping shape the development of our workshops.
Our Background
My Selfcare Community was founded by an industry professional with more than 16 years of experience in beauty, hair and self-care, alongside a background in vocational and community education.
Through work in education, disability support and program development, it became clear that many people, particularly those living with disability, have a strong interest in beauty, hair and self-care but limited opportunities to learn these skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Additional involvement in community-based learning and cultural education has reinforced the importance of creating programs that are practical, inclusive and responsive to diverse participant needs.
This combination of industry knowledge, training and community engagement underpins the organisation's approach to confidence building, skill development and community participation.
As a not-for-profit incorporated association, any revenue generated is reinvested into supporting programs and creating additional opportunities for participants.
